On October 27, Joel achieved a remarkable milestone by completing his first marathon at the iconic Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. This year’s race drew over 23,000 enthusiastic runners, all eager to take on the challenge.
Joel tackled the course alongside JP (his niece Rachel’s husband, a marathon enthusiast in his 20s,) who kept the energy high as they ran together. While the course was advertised as flat and easy, Joel humorously noted that the final stretch to the finish line was anything but flat! Despite the unexpected challenges, the thrill of crossing that finish line made it all worthwhile.
Molly, Ali, and Rachel followed them along the route, cheering them on. All the spectators added to the electric atmosphere. Joel soaked in the encouragement, which surely helped him power through those final miles.
Now, just a couple of days post-race, Joel reports that he’s feeling good—just a bit sore, but definitely able to walk! Congratulations to Joel for this incredible achievement. He is not sure if he is ready to run another marathon, he said he needs a week before he makes that decision.
